ABOUT MILLARD
Millard got its start as a station on the Union Pacific line, and its original downtown, known locally as Old Millard, still sits near Millard Avenue and L Street. Residents fought hard against annexation, but Omaha took the town over in 1971, and what came out of that fight is the thing Millard is still known for: its school district stayed independent of Omaha’s. The decades since filled in the surrounding farmland with tree-lined neighborhoods, parks, and Zorinsky Lake, and Millard still has the settled, close-knit feel of a place that’s been home to families for generations.
THE HOUSING MARKET
Resale homes define the Millard market, and the tri-level is the signature style, with neighborhoods like Harvey Oaks offering homes from the 1970s on generous cul-de-sac lots, surrounded by mature trees, walking trails, and parks. Because the area is largely built out, new construction is limited, so buyers who want space and a Millard schools address often look at updated older homes rather than waiting on new phases. Homes near Zorinsky Lake and in the newer pockets toward the western edge tend to sit at the top of the market, while classic tri-levels and split-levels from the ’70s and ’80s remain one of the more accessible ways into the district.

NEIGHBORHOODS WITHIN MILLARD
Millard has the feel of a small town inside the big city. It began as its own town in 1870, and you can still see that in the brick storefronts along Millard Avenue, the weekly farmers market, and the annual Millard Days festival. Around that Main Street core, the neighborhoods change as you move through them. You’ll find mid-century ranches on tree-lined streets, lake-adjacent homes near the trails of Lake Zorinsky, and some of the newest builds in west Omaha. Families are also drawn here by Millard Public Schools. Whether you want a fresh start in a brand-new home, a walk to the lake, or a first step into the Millard school district, here are five neighborhoods to explore.
